FAQ
How do I know if my photo is large enough?
Digital cameras that are 8megapixel or greater will render a file / photo size that will print to a size of 16x20" or more. We also use a program to help the enlargement process and have had success up to 4x original size. We try to stay at a minimum of 200ppi and a standard of 300ppi for excellent print quality. We also use some noise reducing software, if needed, for best photo quality. Remember, if we see any problem with your photo, we'll give you a call. We can also mail a photo paper proof of your image that will closely match the canvas (shipping charge only).
What size canvas should I choose for my photo?
We will send a proof via e-mail for any cropping or sizing issues. Choose the size that you want to hang and we'll help with the rest.
The size of your photo is based on the length to width ratio setting in your camera, typically it's either a 3:2 or 4:3. This ratio stays contant as a photo is enlarged. You can find an extended explanation here: http://www.digicamguides.com/print/aspect-ratio.html.
When to use a 3/4" standard width vs. the 1½" width?
You can hang either width sizes without a frame. But only the 3/4" width canvases can be framed. If your are going to hang your canvas without a frame, we recommend using the larger width for sizes 16x20" or larger - it gives them a better "stand out" look on the wall. Smaller sizes <16x20" look great either way. Just remember, if you want to frame your canvas, use the 3/4" width size.
What is a Mirror Image Wrap vs. Gallery Wrap canvas?
Carolina Canvas uses mirror image gallery wrapping rather than standard gallery wraping.
Both features are are printed and viewable from the sides. A gallery wrap uses part your image to wrap around the sides of the canvas and the width of the canvas will determine how much of your image will wrap around the sides - 3/4" or 1½". A mirror image wrap keeps your whole original image on the front of the canvas and the sides are created to give the illusion of an extended image. We mirror image the front edges of your photo to create the sides. Photographers love this because the full image stays on the front of the canvas, where it should be.
Can I see a proof of my canvas?
Sure! Our color printing is an outstanding fine art quality and satisfaction guaranteed.
For cropping, we can proof through e-mail. For the photographer who want to make sure that color is perfect, we can mail an 8x10 satin photo proof that closely matches the canvas color spectrum. There is a $5 charge for mailing the photo proof. E-mail proofing is free.
